What you will learn

The aim of this course is to emphasize key differences between conventional well control Principles & Procedures taught in Well Control classes versus Well Control with brines during Workover or Completion operations. Participants will learn the core differences of well control with clear fluids, and follow the exercise on control of depleted well.

Description

Well Control concepts have been developed mainly for drilling operations over the course of many years. They have resulted in a increased number of well control schools, where these techniques are taught to E&P and Service Companies key personnel.

However, often times, only conventional models are being applied to well control during completion and workover operations, which is sometimes incorrect. As workover and completions are usually conducted with clear fluids (brines), application of methods designed for and used in drilling may result in dangerous situations.

“This course is recommended to every drilling and workover professional willing to gain or refresh the understanding of well control practices in workover operations. The content of the course is in depth analyses of well control practices related to workover operations that are not readily available in standard well control certification courses. The course is prepared by professional with extensive hands-on experience. Provided recommendations are field tested and cost conscious.”

  • I am experienced Completion, Workover & Well Interventions Engineer and Manager with almost 30 years of diversified experience in E&P industry. I hold MSc-equivalent degree in Drilling Engineering from Ufa State Petroleum Technological University since 1995. First decade of my work at the oilfield I have worked for a number of workover rig contractors, where my career started after demobilization from national military service in January 1990 at the lowest level of the rig workers – roustabout, and progressed through every step of the hierarchical ladder in rig operations in multinational projects up the level of rig toolpusher by 1995 in Western Siberia. I first got my senses of sharing the skills and knowledge with other people, when I was hired as On-Job-Training Instructor to mentor professional transition of several Russian rig crews in the woods of Orenburg Region in the middle of Russia. That was one of the most enjoyable experiences throughout my career, and the feelings advanced later to great passion for training. In 1997 I have moved out of Russia to work internationally, and my adventures in hotter countries had began from desert areas of Yemen. By 2000, when I felt like being consummate professional, I have left my last service company and shifted career to the side of production companies. Today my knowledge covers broad range and aspects of wells' planning, design, engineering and execution starting from wells’ Completion throughout the well life cycle - Workover and Interventions, and production optimization until well's P&A (Plug and Abandon). Last 15+ years I had developed and tested my skills as Rig Supervisor, Superintendent, Senior Engineer, and Manager in 8 countries with five E&P Companies and one service company so far, and in every position I held, and every country I worked, I tried to find time and resources to spot and hand-pick brilliant minds around me, and then help those young and talented individuals, who could possibly benefit from my experience. In 2008 I have received an honorable award from Board of Directors of SPE International for active participation in global SPE eMentoring Program, and a few years ago I have expanded by formal qualifications with Oil & Gas Occupational Safety and Health Trainer professional certification. I hope, my courses on Petrolessons.com will find their audience, and may help some younger specialists in their professional development process. If the students need to explore my other information and publications, it can be easily found on my website ST Consulting Online
