In a career that spanns 50+ years, he has specialized in integrated petrophysical analysis, bringing to the task a background in well logging operations,  geophysical data processing, reservoir engineering, cash flow analysis, software development, project management, and entrepreneurship. As an independent consultant, Ross has worked on projects from 45 countries on 6 continents and several oceans. Ross has a Degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University (Montreal) and a Certificate in Management Development from University of Calgary. Ross is a Life Member of Association of Professional Engineers and GeoScientists of Alberta (APEGA) and was elected an Honourary Member of the Canadian Well Logging Society (CWLS) in 1994 for his contributions to the petrophysical community. He has authored or co-authored 100+ technical papers and articles, winning Best Paper of the Year from CSEG (1981) and CWLS (1985).  He published "The Log Analysis Handbook" (Pennwell, 1986), a 700 page hardcover textbook,  and its Internet cousin "Crain's Petrophysical Handbook" (1999 to the present). More than 3000 students have attended Ross's open-session and in-house courses since 1995. Ross's current interest is mentoring of novice and experienced petrophysicists, geologists, and engineers, making use of his extensive library of eBook reference manuals, narrated self-study slideshows, and video courses.
