What you will learn

  • An overview of the objectives of seismic petrophysics
  • An illustrative example of the utility of a seismic petrophysics approach
  • Insight into how log analysis can support geophysical models

Description

This course provides an overview of the broad geoscience field of Seismic Petrophysics. First we distinguish between seismic modeling and modeling of well logs in support of seismic modeling. Which logs may be useful in a seismic model and a description of the Shared Earth Model are presented. That model means that petrophysicists, geophysicists, geologists, and reservoir engineers “see” the same rock sequence and the same rock properties as each other. Courses 22 to 25 show methods we use to apply these concepts to real world examples. A comprehensive case history is used to illustrate the concept.

Prerequisites

  • Crain’s Integrated Petrophysics, Lectures 1 to 13 or equivalent background.
  • Course 25 may be helpful (excluding Exercise 25) to explain seismic methods and terminology.
  • Basic understanding of geology and well logging.

Curriculum

  • Seismic Petrophysics Basics
  • Seismic Modeling
  • Log Modeling
  • Logs Used in Seismic Interpretation
  • The Shared-Earth Concept
  • Exercise 21

Target Audience

Those who need to generate log analysis results in aid of seismic modeling, synthetic seismograms, seismic inversion, or AVO models, including:
  • Petrophysicists,
  • Log analysts,
  • Geophysicists,
  • Geologists,
  • Reservoir engineers, and
  • University / Tech school students
