Many people involved in drilling of an Oil or Gas well may be aware of the basic role and function of the Drilling Fluid (Mud) but not have an understanding of the processes that it must go through in order for it to maintain its stability and perform the many functions it must do day after day during the drilling of the well. Solids build up in the mud system as the formation is drilled and if allowed to remain in the system will cause deterioration of the system properties, excessive wear and tear on rig components and can eventually create a situation where the entire well is placed in jeopardy. Controlling the Solids in the system is an important and integral part of maintaining a stable mud system. This course will give participants knowledge of how solids are controlled, the equipment used to control solids and the function and application of these equipment.
This course is designed for:
Participants will gain and broaden their knowledge of Solids Control and the correct application and performance of various Solids Control Equipment.
Gregory Gibbons has over 40 years of experience in the Oil Industry, 38 of which have been specializing in Drilling Fluids. He has worked worldwide for all the Major Service Companies including Baker Hughes, MI Swaco and Halliburton and have held various Field Operations & Management positions. Since 2010 Greg has worked as a Fluids Advisor for Operators in Africa, South East Asia and the Middle East and has worked on every continent except Antarctica.
Greg started his career as a Trainee Driller in Trinidad and rose through the ranks to Assistant Driller. He moved into Drilling Fluids in 1976 and in 1990 began working overseas and quickly became the “go to” guy for difficult and remote operations from the deserts of Yemen to the mountains of Pakistan. The last 6 years he has been the Fluids Advisor for Operators in Vietnam, Nigeria and Kurdistan. In addition, he is a lecturer at the Drilling Academy in Trinidad and mentors and advises young professionals in the Drilling Fluids field.
"I find the content to be detailed, accurate, well explained and very current in relation to practices used today. This module gives valuable, professional insight into this crucial operational component to manage drilling fluids and overall drilling operations. It can make understanding the performance of solids control equipment easier and improve the correct choice of solids control solutions for all professionals involved". - David Lawson - Global Drilling Fluids SME (40 years Experience)
